Not worth "the full wage"
Tory Lord Freud is facing calls to resign after he suggested that some disabled people were not worth "the full wage".

The welfare minister was overheard at Tory conference discussing plans to introduce a £2 minimum wage band just for disabled people.

Well well well, the nasty party show their true colours yet again, despicable.

Is Andy Carroll eligible?

Re: Not worth "the full wage"
He's got a point though but it depends on the circumstance and how severe the disability is. Employers will not pay the same for a disabled person if an able bodied can do the job quicker and quieter for the same money.

Another example of people getting upset about nothing. Anyway, I thought Remploy had gone bust.

Personally I'd pay them £20 an hour to wash my car just for the entertainment value.

I suppose you haven't seen that Labour wanted to back companies paying disabled people £4 a day.

Now, what were you saying about the stories being nasty?

"If you're not quite the full shilling then you're not worth the full wage"

That should be on their banners for the next election..

Not a very clever disguise is it?

Lord Freud's comments were clumsy and ill thought but his point is valid.

If you ran a call centre and you employed someone with Tourette's to make the tea you'd be forced to pay them the same as the people you employ to man the phones, even though they can't do that job. The result is that someone who involuntarily swore a lot, for example, wouldn't get employed in the first place, whereas if there was a legal way to pay them less they would.

Re: Not worth "the full wage"
Yep, that's the answer - drive down wages for the poorest and most vunerable, after all the (now) great recession is all their fault and nothing to do with the banks and the rich who offshore their 'earnings' and pay no tax at all, whilst taking full advantage of all of our national facilities.

He sounds ripe for the Ukips.

Re: Not worth "the full wage"
So Gaunt. How would you suggest we give those too severely disabled to command a job paying the minimum wage the opportunity to experience the dignity of labour and attendant emotional rewards?

Surf, where does it say 'severely' disabled?

Clearly not hear of a bloke called Hawking then Surf? I guess you wouldn't want him getting anywhere near discovering the secrets of the universe on eff-ing the usual minimum wage reserved for the full bodied geniuses on here.

Re: Not worth "the full wage"
what a load of old shit threads like this really are. Of course youre going to get right wing reactionaries coming out with this sort of bollocks. You'll also get reactionaries on the left coming out with all sorts of filth about supporting terrorists, just because they might be seen as slightly lefty. Both sides are cunts in their own way.
